ABOUT HARMJAN

When I was about 12 years old I got my first camera from my dad. It was a Revue compact camera. I still remember that moment very well. I was curious about the result every time I pushed the shutter button. After some trial and errors, when I finally had my first film developed, the prints were sometimes disappointing. This process was like an adventure, were the results became a destination of the process.

Sometimes the pictures were moved or overexposed, and even the chosen perspective made the images a surprise, time and again. After many experiments with this compact camera, I bought my first Nikon SLR.

Learning photography from scratch was more than only just taking pictures. It's story telling, and not every picture simply fits the story I want to tell... The whole process of taking and selecting the right pictures still excites me. Writing text on the contrary is still a challenge.

Currently I hit the streets with a fully manually camera. It's an adventure. Sometimes I consider buying a large format analog camera again, but the small Leica I use these days supports my drive for adventure and delivers great pictures..
