VII Narrative Photography NYC workshop 2019 by Harm Jan Schuurman

At the beginning of 2019 I decided to delve further into narrative photography. Telling stories with pictures has always interested me. I actually thought I knew what it was, but after reading up on it, the desire arose to delve further into this and I wanted to learn from professionals how I could improve my work.

After some fieldwork I decided to go big and signed up for a workshop in New York. A city I really like to visit and to which I am always drawn to.

Ashley Gilbertson en Ed Kashi; two prominent photographers from VII Photo Agency in New York were to shape the Narrative Photography workshop.

The workshop lasted a week and we were challenged daily to further shape our assignment on the basis of many photos taken.

My assignment was; tell more about the 'Meatpacking District' with the help of a maximum of 10 photos.

From violin to cello to viola by Harm Jan Schuurman

From violin to cello to viola, the instrument maker looks after the handmade instruments with care.

From a very young age, Bernard Bossert's life was steeped in music and he began to learn the violin. In 1977 he founded his company in Geneva. The manufacture of an instrument is a long-term job that begins with the compass drawing of the model, drawing inspiration from the greatest Italian masters of the 17th and 18th centuries.
